Recklinghausen has been an official "pedestrian and bicycle-friendly city" since 2003. Flat paths on the Emscher and the canals or on the König-Ludwig-Trasse, a former railway line, with many information boards on the subject of mining, are ideal for leisurely tours. If you like it more sporty, you can work up a sweat and get your money's worth with heap hopping. In addition, there are three "Bett & Bike" certified hotels outside and in the old town as well as bike shops if a repair is necessary.
