About 700 years ago, people from Recklinghausen were already involved in Hanseatic trade, and Recklinghausen had formally belonged to the Hanseatic League as a small Hanseatic city for 500 years.
This long period is presented on a 90-minute tour. Along old trade routes and past contemporary buildings that still exude the Hanseatic era, life and activity in our city come alive. With exciting stories about alleged piracy, successful merchants, and unexpected works of art, the Hanseatic tour becomes an interesting stroll through time.
This architectural history tour takes in some of the more than 70 listed buildings in the old town centre.
Fires in the Middle Ages, city sieges, the advent of mining in the 19th century, Recklinghausen as a boom town before World War I and the destruction of World War II have changed the cityscape several times over the centuries.
