Castel Sant'Angelo Recklinghausen

The residential building of the Engelsburg describes the shape of a horseshoe and dates from the early 18th century. The baroque building borders on the only remaining part of Recklinghausen's medieval city wall. The castle was inhabited until the end of the 19th century. Subsequently, it served as a place for cultural events and sporting activities of the upper class. In the course of this, the building was supplemented by a concert hall. The Engelsburg has been used as a luxury hotel since the 1970s. Inside is the Fireplace Room, named and blessed after Pope Benedict XVI. The entire ensemble is now a listed building.
