high school church

The grammar school church with the four-bay hall was a Franciscan church from 1658. It had to be rebuilt after a town fire in 1686. The east front of the church was changed in a classical style in 1838 due to the rededication as a grammar school church. From 1923 to 1925 the church served as a garrison church for the French occupying forces and in 1927 it was redesigned in a neo-baroque style. The classical furnishings form a closed unit. It was built from 1658 as a religious order church and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The simple four-bay hall was the center of the religious life of the local Franciscan brothers, who lived in the monastery built in 1676 next to the church. The choir and altars are from the 18th century; in the 19th century the church was supplemented with classical elements. Since secularization, the church has been connected to the Petrinum Gymnasium.
