City wall of Recklinghausen
Recklinghausen used to be surrounded by a city wall, rampart and moat. The course of the city wall at that time along the streets surrounding the old town, the royal, ducal, electoral, count and imperial walls, can still be seen today. The city wall was secured by 17 defense towers, one of which can still be seen today. The last surviving piece of the wall is at the Herzogswall. It is about 200 meters long and separates the small park of Castel Sant'Angelo from the rampart.
