guest church

At the end of the 14th century a poorhouse and pilgrims' house was built. This also includes the oldest Catholic church in the city. The oldest records date back to 1423. The smallest Catholic church in the city emerged after 1403 from a hospital or poorhouse, formerly also called the Gasthaus zum Heiligen Geist, and still stands for active charity today. The church has three altar blocks from the early 15th century. The structures of the Sebastianus, Marien and Kreuzaltar come from the Baroque period. In the "guest house" belonging to the host church, a community and numerous volunteers still work today for those in need of help, the elderly, the poor and the homeless in Recklinghausen, but also for the needy in the Third World.
