Merchant's House Verstege

The Verstege merchant's house was built in 1558 as a three-storey half-timbered house. It is the second oldest town house in the old town. Its location on an old trade route to Dortmund made it the preferred seat of wealthy merchant families. Together with its baroque elements in the rear part and the historic half-timbered structure, which was uncovered again between 1993 and 1995, the building embodies the respectable economic position of the farming town of Recklinghausen at the beginning of modern times.
